    If you cannot beat this guy then you lack a good or decent level of dropshots, slice, volley and net play, good approach shots, hitting angles. Playing with a good pusher and losing 10 consecutive times has exposed my weakness to the greatest extent. And yep, if i did not care about the money i would have broken a dozen of rackets... But i will continue to improve and ask this guy to play again and again until i feel comfortable against him. And this will mean that i will have become a better and more complete tennis player, thanks to the dreaded pusher. And the most important thing is to remember what i just wrote when i play with him next time/

    The Wall is my most trusted friend,, opponent and …. coach ! I spend at least 12 hours a week hitting against the Wall in the club’s racquetball court. When I make an error during a match ,, I replicate that error and come up with a solution. I practice every shot on Wall - approach shots, high balls, angled balls, slices,, running Forehand and Backhands,, volleys,, return of serves,, overheads, tweeners (don’t have it yet ) ,, serves (DTT, wide, slices, flat, topspin).

    Pushers are the scum of the Earth especially among kids who cant really deal effectively with something like high balls to backhand. Pushers are the biggest suckers who don't want to play tennis and cant play tennis and just wait for you to make a mistake. The are the real trolls. They play tennis just to annoy everyone else at the lower levels.

    Loved this match on RT, really intense. Love watching these doubles matches analysis. Surely the chess match is at least seemingly more intense than your singles tennis. I'm not sure if I'm right about this but to me it sure looks like it, since I have no clue about doubles. Cheers! M

      @@EssentialTennis I guess the idea of having two opponents on the other side of the net and managing things with your bud on your side seems like adding a few more variables that seem infinitely more complex than when I'm on court on my own where things are a lot more simple. Maybe since I don't know much about doubles it looks even more complex? Hehe...

    I think you are doing the same mistake which you said initially not to do. You said after the contact there is no point in twisting or turning the racket. But I see you are doing same.

    • @EssentialTennis
      @EssentialTennis День назад

      Great comment, the difference is super important. What you do NOT want to do is what the player does at 9:27 - hit the ball with a straight, flat path and then after contact make an attempt to flip or twist the racquet around. What you DO want to do is have any upward release of the racquet start BEFORE contact and smoothly continue after hitting the ball. There's a big difference between bolting on a flip or twist to a flat path and having the whole path actually be upward. When the whole path is upward then its very natural to move the racquet in a circle continuously.

    Clearly it's the double comm rule. Although I did have an opponent once try to claim a pt that hit him in the foot about a meter behind the baseline. I said it's not Table Tennis, part of you winning my out ball, is you getting out of the way. We agreed to a let even though I was clearly correct & he knew it.

    The phrase "face sends, the path bends it" is little misleading. The ball actually starts out somewhere in between the face angle and the path angle. As you hit the ball thinner and thinner, the gear effect / friction starts to contribute more and more to the ball's flight. For example, you can see some examples with a lot of top-spin, e.g. ruclips.net/video/F83i1uLoF3Q/видео.html where the racket is pointed slightly down. What is true is that spin is a result of the difference between the face angle and the path angle. Similarly on the serve with a lot of spin, the racket path has a large effect on the initial path. You can try it yourself by the cutting the block very thin with a slice serve, the ball doesn't just rocket sideways, but rather starts more towards the path of the racket.

    How common is people pronating too early from the pull position you described? I recently recorded myself for the first time and noticed that I pronate extremely early from that position. Does this need to be fixed or is it one of those things that fixes it self as I get more comfortable at swinging faster?

    The birth of RealTennis out of the atrophy is an absolutely powerful element that has a lot of legs left. Truely. Amazing and still the best in its genre/market. Hope you refer both channels to each other. Have the brands reconnect. (I loved that time and space in the warehouse. Maybe you can find a great one once more! As part of new directions) It seems you also really love doing that type of presence, and the product of it. In a sense it's like the podcast to your educational content. It's a more personal casual vibe. You pop off the screen, during matches and commentary.( I mean not as much as Scott but heck who does.) I hope RealTennis remains part of your focus on ET. All the best to you.thank you and respect from Europe.

    Thank you. I'm looking forward to try this routine. *** The most complex thing for me (as a person who tried to server for about a solid half an hour) is to try to find a proper angle the force should be applied with. It's not a very common thing in life to throw smth for a position above the head, trying to place a hit in some range. And it becomes a bit more coprehensive when one have to do it with some tools (like a racket) rather than a part of the body... an extra height, provided by a length of a racket, helps a bit tho. I quite sure it's matter of time to get used to this procedure. But it's a relatively complex thing even on a initial level (without a strong impulse and different spins).

    Im over 70 and i run two teams. I have to tell/convince my partner NOT to stay closer to the net than the rear serve box line or the opp will just hit the ball over their heads left and right to run me back and forth at the rear of the court until they exhaust me, which doesnt take long at my age! so if my partner stands on the rear service box line, they can usually easily cover any shot trying to get over their heads and cut that off by backing up 4 steps. my partner can run forward 4x faster than they can run backwards is what i tell them, which soon becomes obvious if they ignore me. my fast shots down the sideline is my bread n butter, and drop shots if u can scare the opp into staying far back. most of my opps are 10 20 30 yrs younger than me but i can still score on them no problem. i bring my bluetooth speaker and play it LOUD salsa music, everyone loves it!!

    I want to know how to do this. Sounds easy to say “don’t focus on it” or “it’s not important”…. If you were looking over the precipice of a cliff, your brain stem takes over and your body follows your brain stem not the part that’s saying there is nothing to worry about…

  • @mikechan231

    Amazed that more people aren’t interested in “stroke mastery” - that’s the interesting challenge in my mind. If you want to win, play someone that sucks. If you want to compete, play someone better. Ball dinkers are horrible to play against. They feast on players with technical flaws, while they hide their own weaknesses by not actually swinging at the ball. Sure, it’s a legit strategy but how boring. Why show up to the court only to hide from the ball- just go play golf or something.
